Hamsters are small, but many owners would think this means they need a small place as well. Well, we assure you, HAMSTERS LIKE BIG LIVING HABITATS! And that is not the only thing you need to take into account. Read the followings to make sure you give your hamster the life he/she deserves!

Let’s be clear; hamsters need:

1: Large space, which means:

100 cm × 50 cm for sriyan hamsters

80 cm × 50 cm or 100 cm × 40 cm for dwarf or Chinese hamsters

It’s good to know that no cage is too big for a hamster. Just make sure it’s not empty. They need stimulation.

2 : Deep bedding, at least 15cm, which is important for burrowing. Make sure the bedding is dust free beacuse hamsters have sensitive breathing system. When purchasing a bedding, even if the package says it’s dust free but you can see it has dust, consider changing the bedding. Bellow, some signs of harm from dusty bedding is written:

Sneezing often or repeatedly

Noisy or rapid breathing

Eye and nose irritation

3 : Wheel. Hamsters naturally run kilometers every night, so it is crucial, no, more than crucial , they have a proper wheel.

A proper wheel is :

Large. the hamsters back must be straight when running to avoid injury. The diameter sizes are wrote bellow:

Syrian: 28–30 cm (11–12 inches)

Dwarf / Robo / Chinese: 20–25 cm (8–10 inches)

Stable. Take all of these into account:

Does not wobble

Spins smoothly

Doesn’t have sharp edges

Closed or partially closed back is safer.
